In general,<strong> you can hike all year long<\/strong> but the <strong>best time<\/strong> to do so is from <strong>June to October<\/strong>. During these months there are the <strong>fewest rainy days<\/strong>. In addition, you can see the <strong>famous hydrangea flowers<\/strong>, especially between June and the beginning of If you have trouble reading the map or just have a lousy orientation, you can also <strong>use GPS<\/strong>. But then you should bring a fully charged power bank to recharge your cell phone. After just a few metres, you will leave the streets and cars behind you to <strong>enjoy the silence of nature<\/strong>. One of the first highlights is the<strong> two-story aqueduct<\/strong> to the right side which is more than 100 years old.<\/p><p>The first incline follows in the direction of <strong><em>Pico da Cruz<\/em><\/strong> with a height of 845 m (2772 feet). Around one hour later, you will find the <strong>viewing point <em>Miradouro da Cumeeira<\/em><\/strong> to have a <strong>great look over Lagoa Azul<\/strong>. If you continue to follow the trail, you can decide to <strong>end the way in Sete Cidades<\/strong> or continue to the viewing point of <em>Miradouro do Vista do Rei <\/em>(see hike number 3).\u00a0<\/p><p>I actually read the trail is really<strong> popular in summer<\/strong> (I was in late autumn) so be aware of other tourists. If you want to go there by <strong>public transport<\/strong>, you can take the <strong>bus between Ponta Delgada and Vila Franca<\/strong> and get off at the <strong>bus stop <em>\u00c1gua d\u2019Alto<\/em><\/strong>. From here you have to walk up to the starting point of the hike, which will add approximately 4.2 km (2.61 miles) to the hike. \u00a0<\/p><p>Be aware that<strong> many seagulls live around the hiking trail<\/strong>. Especially during the breeding season in April and May, the birds can try to chase off hikers. I never heard of an actual attack, but the seagulls were really loud and flying low.
